Rajeev has an added advantage of being the people’s representative when this ward was part of the panchayat.

Wife Sindhu, though a newbie on the political scene, is pinning hopes on her being a familiar face among the women voters as she has been a Kudumbashree chairperson at the place for 15 years. The present councillor of Ponnumangalam ward BJP’s M R Gopan has shifted to Nemom and has fielded his wife Sindhu Gopan from Ponnumangalam. Long-time employees’ leader Kaimanam Prabhakaran is the candidate for UDF, whose efforts will be to retain the existing seat for the party. Sindhu was secretary of NSS Mahila Samajam in Melamcode. Both these wards have over 7,000 voters.
