Case against Taloja MIDC CETP for polluting creek

NAVI MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has filed a case against officials from the Taloja MIDC's common effluent treatment plant (CETP) for polluting Taloja creek by discharging effluents. "MPCB sub-regional officer J S Hajare said, "Water samples from Taloja creek was taken. A case has been lodged against the CETP board and manager under Sections 277, 278 and 432 of the IPC and various sections of the Water Act on Thursday.MPCB's regional officer Anil Mohekar said, "The dysfunctional CETP has been found to be polluting the Taloja creek. "Assistant inspector from Taloja police station Rajesh Jadhav said, "A case has been lodged against the CETP chairman, vice chairman, 10 directors and the manager for water pollution. A court case was also filed against CETP at the judicial magistrate first class court in October 2017.

A complaint has been lodged with the Taloja police under the Water Act, 1974. "MPCB sub-regional officer J S Hajare said, "Water samples from Taloja creek was taken. Many pollutants were detected in it. Several notices were also issued to the CETP. A court case was also filed against CETP at the judicial magistrate first class court in October 2017. But the CETP has done nothing to tackle the problem. A police complaint was then registered."Assistant inspector from Taloja police station Rajesh Jadhav said, "A case has been lodged against the CETP chairman, vice chairman, 10 directors and the manager for water pollution. More sections will be invoked as per government norms after we carry out our investigations."Meanwhile, CETP director Sandip Dongare said, "I am unaware about the police case and the details will be known on Monday. However, since March 2017 we have been trying to repair the CETP. There has been no stand by equipments like motors available since the last board was in charge. We have written a letter to the Taloja MIDC regarding this. The MIDC has prepared a plan for this."
