Surat: The police custody of infertility specialist Dr Praful Doshi was extended until Wednesday morning by a local court on Monday. Doshi was remanded in police custody for a day on Sunday night when he was produced in the court after his arrest for raping a woman patient in his hospital on September 4.Doshi was booked on September 5 at Athwa police station after a 28-year-old woman alleged that she was raped by him at his hospital at Nanpura in the afternoon of the previous day. He will be produced in the court again before 11am on Wednesday.Police requested the court to extend the remand of Doshi as they had to get many medical tests of his done and also need to find out where he had taken shelter during the period he was on the run. Police told the court that they need custody of the accused to investigate the role of people who had helped him when he was avoiding arrest in the rape case.Police carried out searches at the residence of Doshi, his consulting room where he had raped the woman and recovered his clothes but they had already been washed to remove evidence. Police have seized the CCTV footage from the hospital in which the woman can be seen going inside and coming out of the accused’s consulting room.A group of 25 women shouted slogans against Doshi when he was brought by police to the court campus on Monday. The accused was taken to the court under heavy police security.
