Khasi Students Union KSU member dead Internet services suspended

A CorrespondentSHILLONG: A member of the Khasi Students' Union (KSU) died when he was attacked by a group of people in Ichamati, East Khasi Hills near the international border with Bangladesh. Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui on Friday, while condemning the incident, also informed that a magisterial inquiry has been instituted into the incident to find out the truth. Rymbui also informed that to contain the situation in the aftermath of the attack, the government has decided to impose curfew in Shillong and its suburban areas. The government also decided to suspend Internet services as a precautionary measure. Several KSU members and policemen were injured in the clash.

A Correspondent SHILLONG: A member of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) died when he was attacked by a group of people in Ichamati, East Khasi Hills near the international border with Bangladesh. Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui on Friday, while condemning the incident, also informed that a magisterial inquiry has been instituted into the incident to find out the truth. Rymbui also informed that to contain the situation in the aftermath of the attack, the government has decided to impose curfew in Shillong and its suburban areas. The curfew will be in place till 8 am Saturday. The government also decided to suspend Internet services as a precautionary measure. The deceased who has been identified as Lurshai Hynniewta of Sohra had gone to Ichamati with members of the KSU, after a meeting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and to demand Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya. Several KSU members and policemen were injured in the clash. Vehicles were also vandalised by the mob in the clash. It is still unclear what prompted the group to attack those present in the meeting.
