The Patent Office of Government of India has granted patent to hand operated Green Pea Peeler machine designed by Dr Sushil Kumar Pandey, Assistant Professor, Dept of Agricultural Engineering of Birsa Agricultural University (BAU). Certificate to this effect was issued by the Comptroller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks working under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Dr Pandey informed this machine can peel about 15 kg green peas per hour, which is 4-5 times higher than that of the result obtained from hand peeling. About two years time was invested in designing and perfection. He said when industrial production of this machine starts on a large scale, per unit cost will be around 4-5 thousand only. Green peas peeling exercise will become much easier and faster for the cooks working in hotels, restaurants, mess and small vegetable vendors once this machine is available in the open market. BAU Vice Chancellor Dr SC Dubey has congratulated Dr Sushil for this achievement.
