Cancer awareness journalist Ravi Prakash passes away in Mumbai

Senior journalist Ravi Prakash (48) who had been battling fourth stage lung cancer succumbed to the disease on Friday afternoon while undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital. Ranchi based Prakash had been suffering from lung cancer since January 2021 when it was diagnosed at an advanced stage.  After fighting the disease with intensive sessions of chemotherapy, the journalist had been undergoing a treatment called CAR T- cell therapy in Mumbai for the last one and half months and was the sixth patient in the country to receive this treatment. As per the information received, Prakash had asked his close friends and colleagues to do the necessary preparations in Ranchi before his death. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his grief over the death of the senior journalist on the platform X and posted, Lively people always remain immortal. You will be missed Ravi bhai. I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of our journalist colleague from Jharkhand Shri Ravi Prakashji who was fighting cancer like a warrior. But this morning he lost this battle against this disease. I pray to God to give peace to the departed soul and strength to the family to bear this sorrow. I request the Chief Minister Hemant Soren to help in bringing his body from Mumbai to Jharkhand. Ever since his battle with cancer began in January 2021, Prakash had been tirelessly advocating for cancer patients on various forums. Even on social media he had been raising his voice regarding their struggles, the cost of the treatment, medication and the various problems faced by the patients. Recently, Prakash had also received the Patient Advocate Education Award by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) - a prestigious organisation working in the field of lung cancer on September 7 during the World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) held in San Diego city in America. Prakash in his quest to educate and inspire others was also the director of Lung Connect India, a voluntary organisation working for cancer patients. Last year he also addressed the conference of SAARC Federation of Oncologists held in Kathmandu where he highlighted the obstacles faced by cancer patients.
