Dams and rivers overflow due to continuous rains

Due to continuous rains in Jharkhand for the last three days, the water level of dams and rivers has increased significantly. The water level in Gelsud Dam is just five inches below the danger mark. If heavy rain continues, the gates of the dam can also be opened. The water level of Patratu Dam has also increased. The water level in Tenughat Dam has also increased significantly. Due to the increase in the water level of the dam, six gates of the dam have been opened. Due to which the water level of Damodar river has also increased significantly. River water has also entered many areas. 12 thousand cusecs of water is being released per second in Damodar river from Tenughat Dam. An alert has been issued for the people living on the banks of the river regarding this. Currently, there is 848.10 feet of water in Tenughat Dam. Due to continuous heavy rains in Palamu, rivers in many areas of the district are in spate, Pandus Banki river is in spate, due to which many houses of Belhara village are submerged in water. There are reports of many things including kiosk, grocery shop, salon being washed away in the river. Swarnarekha and Kharkai rivers are also in spate due to continuous rains. The water level in both the rivers has increased considerably. People living on the banks of the rivers have been appealed to be cautious. Along with this, they have also been requested not to go towards the river. The bamboo diversion built on the Birgoda river on the Tangarbasali Pachpada main road of Mandar was washed away by heavy rains. After this alternative diversion was washed away, traffic in the area has once again come to a halt. Minister Banna Gupta has warned about the rising water level of the rivers. He has posted on social media and appealed to the Jamshedpur DC to engage in relief and rescue work. It has been said that due to continuous rain for three days, the water level of Swarnarekha and Kharkai rivers is increasing and is close to the danger mark, people living on the river bank are requested to be cautious. The DC has been asked to be cautious in the matter and identify such victims and take measures to shift them to a safe place, as well as ensure arrangements for their medicines, accommodation and food.
