DC conducts surprise inspection of Ghatshila Residential School, issues show-cause notice

  • | Tuesday | 13th August, 2024

In a decisive move to ensure better standards in educational facilities, Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal conducted an unexpected inspection of the Government Scheduled Tribe Residential School at Upar Pavada in Ghatshila block. The surprise visit aimed to evaluate the schools infrastructure, maintenance, and overall living conditions provided to the students. Project Director ITDA Dipankar Chaudhary, along with several other district officials, accompanied  Mittal during this inspection.   The inspection revealed several alarming deficiencies. Classrooms were found without functioning fans and bulbs, leaving students in uncomfortable conditions. The schools toilets and kitchen were in a state of disrepair, with visible dirt and lack of sanitation. The playground, meant for the students physical activities, was poorly maintained, and several other essential facilities were found lacking proper upkeep.   Displeased with the findings,  Mittal issued show-cause notices to both the Principal and Warden of the school, holding them accountable for the substandard conditions. They were given a strict timeline of seven days to rectify the issues and improve the overall conditions. The District Magistrate warned that failure to comply with these directives would result in further disciplinary action.   The Principal and Warden were specifically instructed to: Ensure all basic facilities, including electricity and clean drinking water, are adequately provided. Maintain hygiene in toilets and the kitchen, ensuring that meals are prepared and served in a clean environment. Provide nutrition to students according to the prescribed menu, with regular monitoring. Undertake cleanliness drives across the school premises, including classrooms, hostels, and common areas.   Revitalize the playground and ensure it is properly maintained for students physical activities. Initiate tree plantation around the school premises to enhance the environment and promote greenery.   Beyond immediate corrective measures,  Mittal extended directives to the Project Director ITDA and District Welfare Officer, instructing them to conduct regular inspections of all residential schools in the district to prevent similar issues from arising elsewhere. The Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Block Development Officer (BDO), and Circle Officer (CO) were also tasked with the ongoing supervision of residential schools within their respective areas, ensuring that these institutions maintain high standards of care and education.   During the field visit, the District Magistrate also inspected the Heritage Village in Chengjoda, a project aimed at promoting local tourism.  Mittal expressed satisfaction with the progress of the construction work but emphasized the need for consistent maintenance and effective operation of the Heritage Village. He provided specific guidelines to the concerned officials to ensure the site is properly managed, making it an attractive destination for tourists.   The inspection was attended by District Welfare Officer Rajendra Gupta, SDO Ghatshila Sachchidanand Mahato, BDO, CO, SDPO, and other senior district officials, all of whom were briefed on the necessary steps to be taken to address the identified issues.
