Mamata blames JKhand for floods in Bengal, Himanta disagrees

  • | Monday | 5th August, 2024

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has blamed Jharkhand for the floods in her State. She termed the floods as man-made. Though the State Government is silent but the Jharkhand BJPs election co-in-charge and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has reacted. Himanta has called Mamata Banerjees claim wrong and without facts. In fact, Mamata Banerjee has told through a post on the social media platform X that she has spoken to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The Bengal CM has said, I have discussed the emerging flood situation with him. Mamata has further written that I discussed with him the matter of sudden and heavy release of water from Tenughat, due to which floods have already started in Bengal. I told him that the water of Jharkhand is flooding Bengal and it is man-made. I requested him to please take care of this. Responding to Mamata Banerjee, Himanta Biswa Sarma has written that I respect Didi, but I cannot accept her belief that the Jharkhand government is responsible for the floods in West Bengal. Both the governments should work together to reduce the difficulties of the people. Every year, the water coming from Arunachal and Bhutan hills causes floods in Assam. However, we do not blame the Arunachal government or the Royal Bhutan government because we understand that water has no boundaries. It naturally flows downwards. On the other hand, on Himantas tweet, JMM MLA Sudivya Kumar Sonu said that Bengal and Jharkhand have not only been sharing borders for centuries but we also share culture along with festivals, happiness and sorrow. No outsider has the right to speak on the problem of Jharkhand and Bengal. That too those people who are being nurtured in the lap of feudalism. This is a matter between Bengal and Jharkhand, both of us states will find a solution to it. The JMM leader said Himanta should worry about his state Assam.
