Drug de-addiction awareness programme held at SXC

An awareness programme on drug de-addiction was organised at St Xaviers Inter College, Ranchi by DLSA, Ranchi, under the guidance of the Judicial Commissioner-cum-Chairman, on Thursday. Addressing the programme, LADC Rajesh Kumar Sinha gave information about the crimes related to trading of opium, ganja, heroin, brown sugar and cultivation of opium under the Drugs and Psychotropic Substances-1985 and told the students about the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940. Apart from this, focus was done on NDPS, NCB and Article 47 of the Constitution. He said that drug addiction starts with paan, gutkha, khaini etc. The punishment is divided into three categories: small, intermediate, commercial, which includes 2 to 10 years of punishment and a fine of Rs 2 lakh, he added. On the occasion CID-DSP, Rajkumar Yadav said that drug addiction causes physical, mental and financial harm. "A person under the influence of drugs starts stealing. The youth are ruining their precious lives by consuming drugs after falling prey to drugs. The entire home and family is ruined by drugs. Many works are being done by various organizations for the prevention of drug abuse," he added. Atul Gera of Life Savers NGO also shed light on drug eradication. He explained in detail about the effects of drugs. He said that a person remains healthy by not taking drugs. Gera said that drugs destroy the quality of the body. "It affects the entire family. Drug addiction causes financial, mental and physical damage to the family, which can never be compensated," he added. He further said that the entire money of a drug addict is spent on drugs, which affects his family and the family gets destroyed. A drug addict roams around like a mad person, due to which his dignity also ends, he added. On this occasion, mediator PN Singh, Atul Gera of Life Savers NGO, CID-DSP Rajkumar Yadav, DSPCT Anuj Oraon, PLV Bhupratap Mahato, Manav Kumar, Sangeeta Singh, Sangeeta Devi and the Principal, teachers and others of Saint Xaviers Inter College were present.
