PATNA: Rain continued to lash Patna and several other parts of the state for the second consecutive day on Friday due to a cyclonic storm over south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast.In its daily weather bulletin, Patna Meteorological Centre stated that light to moderate rainfall occurred at most places in the state except northwestern parts and light rainfall at one or two places.While the state capital received 15.7mm rainfall over the last 24 hours, other places which recorded significant rainfall included Biharsharif (50mm), Pusa in Samastipur (40mm), Ekangarsarai in Nalanda (40mm), Masrakh in Saran (30mm) and Muzaffarpur (30mm).Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated in its special weather bulletin that the system which originated over west-central Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclonic storm ‘Daye’ on Thursday night and crossed south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast close to Gopalpur as a cyclonic storm. While continuing to move west-northwestward, it weakened into a deep depression on Friday morning and was positioned over interior Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh The IMD bulletin stated that the system was very likely to continue to move west-northwestward and weaken into a depression.Officials at Patna Meteorological Centre said the system was gradually weakening as it is moving on land. “Bihar is likely to witness light to moderate rainfall due to residual moisture feeding from the system over the next 24 hours. Dry weather is likely to prevail for a couple of days thereafter,” said an official at the Met office Meteorological experts have also claimed that this is probably the last spell of active rainfall in the eastern parts of the country in the ongoing monsoon season, which will conclude on September 30. Bihar has been facing 21% monsoon rainfall deficiency as on date.
