Nagpur: The District and Sessions court on Tuesday rejected bail application filed by Nishant Agrawal, an engineer working with BrahMos Aerospace branch in Nagpur and arrested on espionage charges. Agrawal was accused of illegally possessing highly sensitive and secret documents and transmitting the confidential data to Pakistan agency ISI. He was arrested from his residence in Nagpur in a joint operation by the anti-terror squads of UP and Maharashtra on October 8, 2018. During the search, secret and highly sensitive documents were found in his personal computer. The trial of Nishant Agrawal is being held in Nagpur’s District and Sessions court. Nishant had filed an application for bail. Uttar Pradesh ATS opposed bail to Agrawal. The next hearing will be held on March 28. According to police, Agarwal was allegedly in touch with two Pakistan-based Facebook profiles and the ATS had downloaded the chat history to analyse the interaction in detail. The two IDs were apparently fake, made under the name of women, suggesting a case of suspected honey-trap. While the ATS seized material from his residence in Nagpur, an old laptop belonging to the accused was also recovered from his native in Roorkee in Uttarakhand. BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between India’s Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s Military Industrial Consortium, NPO Mashinostroyenia. According to its website, the company is responsible for designing, developing, producing and marketing BrahMos missiles with active participation of a consortium of Indian and Russian industries.
