“He (Vijayashankar) has made a blunder, but the DC had accepted his nomination papers. “We told DC that the affidavit cannot be approved as it is not a small clerical mistake but an incorrect document. I told DC that I knew the pressure on him (DC) as the candidate who had made the mistake is the ruling party candidate. We found that Vijayashankar’s papers had few important lapses and brought it to the notice of DC. The papers have technical mistakes where he had failed to fill several columns and left it empty.

MYSURU: BJP spokesperson G Madhusudhan on Wednesday compared the deputy commissioner, who is also the district election officer, to a ‘Pakistani cricket umpire .’Speaking at a press meet on Wednesday, Madhusudhan raised objections to the nomination papers filed by Congress-JD(S) candidate C H Vijayashankar stating that the affidavit is incorrect and defective.“Myself (Madhusudhan) and advocate Umesh Kumar visited the DC’s office where nomination papers are being verified on Wednesday. We found that Vijayashankar’s papers had few important lapses and brought it to the notice of DC. The papers have technical mistakes where he had failed to fill several columns and left it empty. Even the notary has not mentioned the dates in the paper,” he said.Alleging that the affidavit is incorrect and defective, Madhusudhan said that despite his objections, DC approved the affidavit. “We told DC that the affidavit cannot be approved as it is not a small clerical mistake but an incorrect document. When notarisation itself is incorrect, then how can you accept the affidavit, we asked. I told DC that I knew the pressure on him (DC) as the candidate who had made the mistake is the ruling party candidate. I requested the DC not to bend to any pressure while scrutining the document,” he said.Madhusudhan said that at the end of the nomination paper, the deponent should give a verification that affidavit is true. “He (Vijayashankar) has made a blunder, but the DC had accepted his nomination papers. It shows that the state government has started pressuring the DC. This will not be accepted by BJP. Without notorisation, the document is invalid,” he said.Madhusudhan said that when he raised the objections, DC had told him to question it in a court of law. “This shows that the DC has already decided to pass the papers. You know Pakistan cricket umpires. If they (Pakistan players) want to get the Indian batsman out, they will not ask the umpire whether he is out due to LBW. But they ask ‘Khudha Kahan Hai’. The umpire say ‘Khudha Upper Hai’ (showing his finger upwards). The Indian batsman will be out. It should not be like that,” he said.“The DC is the district election officer. We have complete belief and respect in him. This DC is honest and so I will not speak any ill against him. He is a young man, good and very intelligent. But why he is behaving like this, I have my own doubts,” he said. “The nomination papers should be rejected and on Thursday I am approaching the high court against the affidavit,” he said.Meanwhile, KPCC spokesperson H A Venkatesh said BJP is trying to confuse people by spreading rumours about the affidavit filed by Congress–JD(S) coalition candidate C H Vijayashankar. In a press statement on Wednesday, Venkatesh said all the details and documents provided by Vijayashankar in his affidavit to the Election Commission are correct and proper. He said the BJP fears losing the polls and are hence involved in such immoral politics, he said.
