Missing Barriers: No lessons learnt as safety takes a back seat on Sidhwan road

The fatal accident on March 9 had brought back focus on stretches on the road along the canal which has broken or no barriers around its stretches. .Ishupreet Singh, a student of PCTE College, said, “I use this road to go to my college every day. Most of the barricades are broken and those which have been left might not be able to even stop a two-wheeler. Highlighting the danger on the road, residents said that the authorities should act promptly by installing railings and barricades by the side of Sidhwan to ensure that no more lives are lost in such accidents. This issue should be taken up seriously and resolved as early as possible.”It seems that the authorities are waiting for more incidents to take action in this regard.

Ludhiana: Almost a week after the death of four youngsters in a car, which plunged into Sidhwan canal after crashing into the railing of BRS Nagar bridge, authorities have failed to take any measures in making the stretches around the canal safer. The fatal accident on March 9 had brought back focus on stretches on the road along the canal which has broken or no barriers around its stretches. Highlighting the danger on the road, residents said that the authorities should act promptly by installing railings and barricades by the side of Sidhwan to ensure that no more lives are lost in such accidents. .Ishupreet Singh, a student of PCTE College, said, “I use this road to go to my college every day. I urge the authorities to look after this issue seriously,” said Shivam Anand, businessman from Harnam Nagar.Residents said besides barriers, the authorities should promote road safety among commuters.“Near the canal bridge, there should be proper wall, said Jasmine Kaur, a fashion designer from Model Town.MC commissioner Kanwalpreet Brar was not available for comments.
