Mayawati to review BSPs crushing defeat in UP bypolls today

  • | Saturday | 30th November, 2024

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has called a meeting in the party office here on Saturday to review the reasons for the crushing defeat of the party in the Uttar Pradesh assembly by-elections. In the meeting, divisional coordinators, district presidents of BSP and All India Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation (BAMCEF) hailing from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been called along with state office-bearers. It is expected that in this meeting, there will be discussion on the slipping support base of the party as well as strengthening the organisation up to the booth level. It is also believed that after this meeting, some big office-bearers can also be fired. The BSP, which has formed government four times in Uttar Pradesh, is currently going through its worst phase. The party contested the by-elections on all nine assembly seats this time. Compared to other elections, BSPs performance in this by-election was quite disappointing. In western Uttar Pradesh, Azad Samaj Party performed better than the BSP. This is like a warning bell for BSP. Azad Samaj Party becoming stronger means Dalit vote bank going with it. The BSP supremo is very worried about this. Immediately after the by-elections, she announced not to contest any bypoll in future. She has also changed the coordinators of most of the divisions in the state. An official spokesman of the party confirmed that the BSP supremo has called an important meeting at the state party office on November 30. Earlier, after the BSP failed to win a single seat in the by-elections held on nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati had alleged irregularities in voting and said that her party would not contest bypolls in future unless the Election Commission takes action.
