In a significant move to support the well-being and academic growth of students in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), the Yogi Adityanath government plans to provide fresh fruits and milk to them from the academic session 2025-26. The governments objective is to promote the physical, mental and academic development of these students, contributing to their overall success and well-being. It aims to improve their academic performance while also enabling them to play a strong and empowered role in society. Minister of State for Basic Education Sandeep Singh stated that in order to make the tender process transparent and competitive, all tenders will be published in newspapers and on the NIC portal. The process will be completed by February 28, 2025, ensuring timely supply. Any delays or irregularities found will result in holding the concerned officers accountable. The UP government has made it mandatory to use the GeM (Government e-Marketplace) portal for the purchase of daily consumables and teaching materials. This move will ensure transparency and competitiveness in the procurement process. Specifically, students will be provided milk from renowned brands such as Parag, Amul, Gyan and Mother Dairy. Deputy director and senior expert Dr Mukesh Singh stated that if the supplied material does not meet the required standards, the security deposit of the firm concerned will be forfeited and the firm will be blacklisted. Legal action may also be taken if necessary, he added. A five-member committee has been formed to check and monitor the quality of the material. This committee will regularly inspect the quality of the material supplied. Samples of the material supplied will be preserved in the office of the district basic shiksha adhikari and the respective schools. The governments effort is not limited to nutrition alone. The educational materials and other needs of the female students have also been prioritised. Efforts will be made to ensure that every female student receives adequate teaching materials, nutrition and other facilities promptly and without interruption.
