In a tragic incident, five people, including the grooms aunt, were killed and four others were critically injured in a road accident in Hardoi. The passengers on a Bolero were returning from Kanpur after attending a wedding. At 3 am on Monday, the Bolero collided head-on with a bus. The collision was so severe that the Bolero fell 50 feet away. It had to be cut to bring out the trapped occupants. Among the dead were four women and a man. Police said that the accident took place on Katra-Bilhaur road near Gauri intersection under Mallawan Kotwali. It is suspected that the accident happened because of poor visibility due to fog or the driver dozed off. Police sent the bodies for post-mortem. The four injured persons were referred to the Trauma Centre of King Georges Medical University in Lucknow. The wedding party of Digvijay Singh of Mallawan in Hardoi had gone to Shivrajpur in Kanpur. The baraatis were returning after the wedding. There were nine people, including women and children, in the Bolero. The bus involved in the accident was also carrying wedding guests from Baghauli. The victims were identified as Seema Devi (40), Pratima (32), Pratibha (42), the grooms aunt Ramkali (52) and Bolero driver Shubham (28). They all died on the spot. All hailed from Madhoganj in Hardoi district. Those seriously injured in the accident included Vimala (40), Keshav (12), Shaurya (10) and a 12-year-old child. The bus driver fled from the spot after the accident. A case has been registered in this regard and the police have launched a hunt to nab the absconding bus driver.
