Girl killed for honour in Muzaffarnagar

In a suspected case of honour killing, a girl was found shot dead in Khatauli area of Muzaffarnagar on Friday morning. The relatives of the deceased were later found to be absconding. The police have registered a case and launched a hunt for her relatives. According to reports, a girls body with bullet wounds was found in an abandoned car in Khatauli area of Muzaffarnagar on Friday morning. The victim was identified as a native of Bahsuma in Meerut. The circle officer of Khatauli said that on Friday morning, the local police received information about the murder of a girl who was living with her maternal uncle, in Rasulpur Kelora village under Khatauli police station. On receiving the information, Superintendent of Police (City) Satyanarayan Prajapat and Khatauli police reached the spot and found the body lying in an abandoned car near the village. Station House Officer of Khatauli, Inspector Brijesh Sharma, said that Himanshi, daughter of Anil of village Mohammadpur Shakist under Hastinapur police station of Meerut district, was shot dead in Rasulpur village and her body was found lying in a car near the village. She was shot twice. The maternal uncle and his sons have been accused of murder. They all have fled from home. Two women of the family were taken into custody and questioned. It is said that Himanshi was originally a native of Mohammadpur village of Hastinapur. Her father had died when she was a child. For the last seven-eight years, Himanshi was staying at her maternal uncles house and receiving education. She was studying in Mawana. During this time, she fell in love with Vineet, son of Balraj resident of nearby village Sadarpur. Himanshi and Vineet were studying together. Her maternal uncle and his family were opposed to their love affair but both got married in court on October 10. They were set to get married formally on November 12 as per social rituals. Annoyed with the move, her relatives shot her dead on Friday morning.  Vineet claimed that Himanshis mother had 32 bigha agricultural land, out of which 22 bigha land was sold by Himanshis brother and nephews. Himanshi had also opposed this/ Further investigations are on.
