UP mulling ban on ferrying people by tractor-trolleys

  • | Monday | 14th October, 2024

he Uttar Pradesh government is contemplating a ban on use of tractor-trolleys for passenger travel. The Transport department will soon convene a meeting of all stakeholders to ensure compliance with the ban on using tractor-trolleys for transportation of people. The decision has been made in the wake of a spate of mishaps involving people traveling on tractor-trolleys. The latest one was reported on October 4 from Mirzapur when 10 labourers returning by tractor-trolley from a project site to their homes in Varanasi were killed. After October 4 too, many tractor-trolley related mishaps have been reported from different parts of Uttar Pradesh. We will soon convene a high-level meeting to discuss ways to curb use of tractor-trolleys for passenger transportation. Our strategy is going to be two-fold – enforce regulations on tractor-trolleys strictly while also creating awareness among the rural masses, who prefer tractor-trolleys for commuting, possibly because they consider it to be a cheaper and readily accessible option, Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Daya Shankar Singh said on Saturday.
