2 brothers done to death over property dispute

In a sensational incident in Agra, two brothers were allegedly killed following a dispute over removing a tractor from a field in Pura Lodhi village, Khandauli, on Tuesday afternoon, polics said. Two other members of the same family were grievously injured in the incident, they added. The conflict reportedly stemmed from a five-year-long dispute over 1.25 bighas of land between the two parties. According to reports, Raghuveer from Pura Lodhi was leaving the field of his relative Betal Singh, along with his son Vinay, using a tractor. The field had a chak road (a public path for farming purposes) that had been ploughed by Betals side. When Betal objected, Raghuveer instructed his son to take an alternative route with the tractor but chose to stay behind. This led to a heated argument between the two. During the altercation, members of Betal Singhs side allegedly attacked Raghuveer with sticks and spades. Hearing his cries for help, Raghuveers wife Saroj Devi, his brother Satyapal, and nephew Devanand rushed to the scene, but the accused surrounded them and allegedly assaulted them with shovels, leaving them severely injured. Raghuveer succumbed to injuries on the spot. Family members and local police rushed the injured to the nearby community health centre, where doctors pronounced Satyapal dead. Saroj Devi and Devanand, both critically injured, were later transferred to SN Medical College for further treatment. The root cause of the murder was said to be a long-standing dispute over the division of the 1.25 bigha field. Raghuveers family and Betal Singh had jointly purchased the land five years ago. A high-tension power line runs through the field, and both sides wanted to avoid receiving the portion of land with the power line. This unresolved issue had prevented the formal division of the property. While there had been several clashes between the two parties in the past, they were temporarily resolved with the intervention of local villagers. However, the dispute escalated on Tuesday, resulting in the loss of two lives, with two others fighting for their survival. ACP Piyushkant Rai stated that efforts were underway to apprehend the attackers. Police have also been deployed in the area to maintain peace in the area.
