SI attempting suicide after mistreatment by magistrate rescued

  • | Wednesday | 18th September, 2024

Quick action by police officers prevented a tragic incident involving one of their own in Aligarh. On Monday night, Sub-Inspector Sachin Kumar from Bannadevi police station was found on the railway tracks, apparently intent on taking his own life. Thanks to the swift response of police station in-charge Pankaj Kumar Mishra and his team, Kumar was persuaded to return safely. Kumar reportedly acted on a sense of grievance stemming from alleged mistreatment by a local magistrate. The sub-inspector accused the magistrate of improper conduct during the remand proceedings of individuals arrested for bike theft. The SP (City) has ordered a high-level investigation into these allegations. Earlier, Kumar, along with Crime Inspector Bijendrapal Rana and teams from the anti-vehicle theft and criminal intelligence wings, apprehended four accused involved in bike theft at District Malkhan Singh Hospital. The accused—Adeeb from Haddi Godown, Mandir Wali Gali in Jhalkari Nagar, Faiz from Khwaja Chowk, Arbaaz from Junglegarhi Transformer Wali Gali, and Aamir from Sarai Miyan—were found with four stolen bikes, including an Activa, two scooters without number plates, and a bike with an erased chassis number. They confessed to stealing two scooters from locations on Agra and Gular roads. The stolen vehicles were allegedly stored at a shop owned by another accused, Shakir, who was also arrested. During the court proceedings, Kumar claimed the magistrate treated him disrespectfully and made him wait from 4 pm to 10 pm without granting the requested remand. This alleged mistreatment drove Kumar to attempt suicide. The local police intervened in time to prevent the tragedy and assured Kumar that his complaints would be addressed. SP (City) Mrigank Shekhar Pathak confirmed that Kumars written complaint is under investigation, and appropriate action will be taken. In a separate incident, an eight-year-old boy named Vimal lost his life in Achnakapur village, Kannauj district, after a memorial plaque honouring freedom fighters collapsed on him. The child, son of local farmer Dharampal Rajput, was playing near the plaque at a primary school when it fell, causing fatal injuries. Despite efforts by local residents to rescue him, Vimal succumbed to injuries. Sub-Inspector Neeraj Sharma, who is handling the case, has initiated an investigation. The body has been sent for autopsy, and further action will be based on the investigations findings and the post-mortem report.
