Hitting out at senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala for his comment on cine-start-cum-Member of Parliament Hema Malini, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Aparna Yadav said that it was an old tradition of the Congress party to hurt the dignity, self-respect and pride of women by insulting and humiliating them. Addressing journalists at the BJP state headquarters here on Thursday, Aparna Yadav stated that while our prime minister is leading a positive campaign nationwide to honour womens empowerment, the Congress continues to exhibit derogatory behaviour towards women. Insulting women is ingrained in the DNA of the Congress party. Even Priyanka Chaturvedi, a former Congress leader in Mathura, had to leave the party to uphold her dignity and self-respect, she said. She pointed out that numerous leaders in the Congress, including Rahul Gandhi, Kamal Nath, Digvijay Singh, Shashi Tharoor, along with leaders from the Indian grand alliance like Mohammad Azam Khan and Abu Azmi, have been making derogatory and disrespectful comments against women. Aparna Yadav said that it was not just Surjewala who had made disrespectful comments about Hema Malini but also several female leaders of the Congress party who had repeatedly made indecent and derogatory remarks about female leaders from other parties. She said that Hema Malini had not only carved a niche for herself in the fields of art, culture and cinema in India but also globally. For her contributions, the Indian government has honoured her with the Padma Shri award, she added. Aparna Yadav appealed to the Election Commission of India to take cognisance of Surjewalas derogatory remarks and take strict action in this matter.
