HYDERABAD: TV actress S Naga Jhansi’s lover, Surya Teja, was taken into custody for questioning in relation to her suicide. Panjagutta police are grilling Surya to see if he has anything to do with the suicide on February 5.Jhansi, 21, had committed suicide at her flat in Yellareddyguda by hanging herself from a ceiling fan with a sari. Jhansi did not leave a suicide note, and police have seized her two phones (a Samsung and an iPhone) from the flat.So far, the police could only access her Samsung phone. As they could have not been able to access to the date in her iPhone, it would be sent to FSL. The police have got only a few details after examining her Samsung phone. Vijay Kumar, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Panjagutta, said, “On the day of the suicide, Jhansi had spoken to Surya, and later he switched off his cell phone. Subsequently, Jhansi called him several times and even sent messages on WhatsApp . But she deleted the messages later. Surya and Jhansi were in love for over a year.”On Saturday night, Surya went to Panjagutta police, who took him into custody for questioning. In her statement to police, Jhansi’s mother Annapurna said Surya took her daughter’s ?10 lakh worth gold jewellery. “He took the gold. My daughter believed that he will marry her and gave the gold. Subsequently, he refused to marry her and she committed suicide. Surya is responsible for my daughter’s death,” Annapurna alleged.The victim’s family also alleged that Jhansi gifted ?1.3 lakh-worth bike to Surya on his birthday. “He made my daughter stop working for TV. He made her stop talking to people,” Annapurna said.When the police asked Surya about the jewellery of Jhansi, he told them that the jewels were mortgaged on the request of Jhansi and her family members. “According to Surya, Jhansi’s family members wanted money to construct a house in their native place in Krishna district ,” an investigating official said.“They requested him to arrange money. Surya said that by mortgaging Jhansi’s jewellery, he got ?2 lakh and through a known person, he arranged ?3 lakh more loan for Jhansi’s family.”The police said that after questioning Surya, they will decided whether to alter the section of the case from Section 174 (suspicious death) of the CrPC to 306 (abetment to commit suicide) of the IPC.
