Toddler follows brother, run over by school bus

Around 7.45am, Sathvik and his mother Lavanya came out of their house as the school bus reached their location. Adiya , Sathvik’s one-and-half-year-old sister, followed the duo.As Lavanya, a housewife, was busy ensuring her son get into the bus, Adiya started to walk away from her and stood in front of the school bus. “As neither Lavanya nor the bus driver noticed that little Adiya was standing in front of the left tyre of the bus, the driver started the vehicle. HYDERABAD: A one-andhalf-year-old toddler was run over by a school bus, which came to pick up her brother, a kindergarten student, at Gopigadda in Shabad in neighbouring Rangareddy district on Monday.Shabad police said the bus, belonging to Shabadbased Montessori High School, went to pick up fouryear-old M Sathvik Reddy at Gopigadda, where his family resides. A case was registered under Section 304-A (negligence causing death) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Jangaiah and authorities of Montessori High School.

Adiya , Sathvik’s one-and-half-year-old sister, followed the duo.As Lavanya, a housewife, was busy ensuring her son get into the bus, Adiya started to walk away from her and stood in front of the school bus. “As neither Lavanya nor the bus driver noticed that little Adiya was standing in front of the left tyre of the bus, the driver started the vehicle. The woman bid goodbye to the boy. As the bus moved forward, the girl came under the wheel. After Lavanya raised an alarm, bus driver Jangaiah slammed the brakes, but by then it was too late,’’ Shabad sub-inspector M Ravi Kumari said.At the time of the mishap, the housewife did not hold the hand of the toddler, who had just started walking in the past few months, assuming that the girl was standing behind her. Everyday, either the boy’s mother or father, a farmer, along with the toddler would see him off as he boards the school bus, police said.Immediately after the accident, locals gathered in large numbers at the accident spot and assaulted Jangaiah before handing him over to the Shabad police. A case was registered under Section 304-A (negligence causing death) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Jangaiah and authorities of Montessori High School. Police noticed that there was no attendant on the bus.
