more-in Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday rejected the United Nations’ human rights report on Kashmir and said it had no right to ‘interfere’ in India’s sovereignty. Mr. Owaisi was addressing a gathering at the Jalsa-e-Youm-ul-Quran event on the last Friday of Ramzan. “This is indeed a diplomatic failure of the Government of India, but I want to reiterate my party’s policy and tell the United Nations: you have no right to interfere in the internal matters of our country. India is a democracy and will remain one. Here, the human rights commission is independent and the judiciary is independent,” Mr. Owaisi said. He said that despite the political and ideological differences with the Prime Minister in matters of sovereignty, the country came first. While Mr. Owaisi said he stood with the Government of India on UN’s report on Kashmir issue, he criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party and the People’s Democratic Party combine and accused them of failing to control infiltration from Pakistan. He also lashed out at both parties for displacement of thousands of Indians from villages along the Indo-Pak border and said the government’s policy in Kashmir ‘is not working’. The MIM president condemned the killing of noted journalist Shujaat Bukhari, his two security officers and Army jawan Aurangzeb and described the perpetrators as ‘agents of Satan’. “Who are these perpetrators who have turned the beautiful Kashmir valley into an inferno? Who are these people who have spread hatred in its wafting fragrance? Who are these people who are killing innocent people,” he said. Mr. Owaisi flayed the Congress for inviting former President Pranab Mukherjee to its iftar party in Delhi. Mr. Mukherjee, in his speech at the RSS headquarters, had described Muslims rulers as invaders, he pointed out. This, he said, was in line with the RSS’ opinion on Muslims: “They said that we are children of invaders.”
