Assam to support budding entrepreneurs from low-income families

Guwahati: Assam will soon launch a mission, Mukhyamantrir Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan, to promote two lakh micro-entrepreneur youths of BPL and low-income families over the next two years with monetary and policy support.Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced on X that this soon-to-be launched initiative will support our budding youth in their entrepreneurial journey through robust monetary and policy support.The beneficiary, besides being a permanent resident of Assam and aged between 18 and 45 years, should have at least passed Class 10 and have basic skills and knowledge to undertake income-generating activities (ITI, diploma). They should not have defaulted any loan and should not belong to a family of government service holder or pensioner. Only one member per family is eligible for the benefits and each must be registered in employment exchange before April 1, 2023.Under this scheme, income-generating activities like self-employment after professional courses, agriculture and horticulture, fisheries, poultry and dairy, packaging, readymade garments, plantation, wood-based industries, stationery, fabrication and hardware will be covered.The beneficiaries, as per their eligibility, will receive Rs 2 lakh, Rs 3 lakh or Rs 5 lakh in two instalments in a mix of government grant and interest-free government loan.
