Ambala resident cheated of Rs 49,500 over phone call

I told him that I have shared my Aadhar details and my bank account is linked with it. But the caller said if I do not share ATM card details of the account, I would never get the subsidy. AMBALA: The Saha police have registered a case of theft and cheating by an Ambala resident after some fraudster withdrew Rs 49,500 from his bank account, after accessing the card details over a phone call.Sanjay Gupta, a resident Durga Nagar, Ambala Cantonment , filed a complaint with Saha police alleging that, “On January 21, 2019, he was present at his shop in Saha when he received a call on his mobile from a number and was told that he did not receive subsidy for his gas cylinder and that he has filed a complaint on January 20 for the subsidy.”“I told the caller that I have applied for the subsidy. In reply, the caller demanded my bank account number. I told him that I have shared my Aadhar details and my bank account is linked with it. But the caller said if I do not share ATM card details of the account, I would never get the subsidy. Then I shared the card details of my daughter’s account and later we came to know that an amount of Rs 49,500 was withdrawn from her account. On the same day, I called on the number, but the person threatened me of dire consequences.”SHO Saha said, “We have registered a case under Section 379 (punishment for theft), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The facts are being gathered to generate evidence in this case and further action would be taken accordingly to the facts coming forward. The information is being verified and thorough study is being done to investigate the case.”
