Weapons seized, cops say gang war averted

NEW DELHI: A major gang war may have been averted in the city after Special Cell of Delhi Police seized weapons from a UP-based gunrunner who had come to supply them to Delhi’s most wanted gangster Jitender Gogi’s associates. Police seized .32 bore pistols from his bag and arrested him.“During interrogation, Musa revealed that he procured the weapons from an arms dealer in Sandwa, Madhya Pradesh. Sources said the receiver was a key member of the Gogi gang. Around 7pm, the team spotted a man walking with two bags on his shoulder and stopped him.

The accused, Mohammed Musa, was carrying 20 weapons and 12 magazines.DCP (special cell) Sanjeev Yadav said that multiple teams had been working on stopping the influx of illegal arms into the capital and they had mounted human and technical surveillance on gunrunners and their associates. ACP Sanjay Dutt’s team got to know that arms being used in crimes in the city were coming from suppliers based in Kairana of Uttar Pradesh.On January 19, the police team got a tip-off that Musa from Kairana would come to Delhi to deliver a huge consignment of weapons to a gangster in Dwarka. Inspector Pawan Kumar’s team laid a trap in Sector 2. Around 7pm, the team spotted a man walking with two bags on his shoulder and stopped him. The man tried to flee, but was nabbed after a brief chase. Police seized .32 bore pistols from his bag and arrested him.“During interrogation, Musa revealed that he procured the weapons from an arms dealer in Sandwa, Madhya Pradesh. He used to travel by his car and at times took the train to dodge cops trailing him,” DCP Yadav said.He was arrested in Saharanpur in a gunrunning case in 2017. On January 14, Musa and his brother, Soyab, had come to Faridabad to supply arms to criminals, but his brother was arrested by GRP along with nine pistols. Musa, who was carrying 15 pistols at that time, managed to escape. Police are trying to track the person who was supposed to collect the weapons from Musa. Sources said the receiver was a key member of the Gogi gang.
