Three arrested for smuggling sand boa to Tamil Nadu from Karnataka

Three people were arrested for smuggling a sand boa near Asanur here on Thursday early morning. The trio was caught while trying to smuggle the snake to Tamil Nadu from Karnataka.The arrested were identified as Rafibullah Khan , 40, Basheer Ahmed , 33 and J Eliyas, 52, of Mysuru in Karnataka. The forest officials produced them before the Sathyamangalam sub-court, which remanded them in judicial custody for 15 days. "The trio told us that their plan was to sell the snake in Tamil Nadu," the Asanur police said.Based on their confessional statement, the police detained the trio, besides seizing the car and seized the sand boa from them.The police handed the snake and the trio over to forest department officials, who arrested them. Later, the trio was lodged at Gobichettipalayam sub-jail.

On Thursday early morning, cops attached to Asanur police station were on vehicle check at Prohibition Enforcement check post near Asanur on Sathyamangalam-Mysuru national highway when the trio came that way in a car, which the police subsequently stopped.During the vehicle check, the police recovered a sand boa that the trio was smuggling in a travel bag. "The trio told us that their plan was to sell the snake in Tamil Nadu," the Asanur police said.Based on their confessional statement, the police detained the trio, besides seizing the car and seized the sand boa from them.The police handed the snake and the trio over to forest department officials, who arrested them.
