Things took a dramatic turn on Wednesday in Delhis Shahdara area when a 40 year old teacher and an environmental activist climbed a high-voltage electricity pole refusing to come down unless he meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud. On Wednesday noon, Geeta Colony police station received a peculiar call, A man has climbed an electric pole. On reaching, the police were stunned to see an individual perched dangerously on the high-voltage pole, tied to it with ropes who were demanding immediate government action on environmental issues. The police also suspected that the man had mental disabilities. A DFS official said, "We received a call regarding a person climbing a high-voltage electricity pole at 10.30 am. We sent a rescue team immediately to the spot. Our team rescued him and safely brought him down. He was handed over to the police." The individual was identified as Madhusudan Biswas, who is from Pathuria, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. DCP Shahdara Prashant Gautam said, Claiming to be an environmental activist and teacher, Madhusudan said he had sent multiple emails to government officials demanding proactive measures on environmental issues, but received no response. After being frustrated over no response to his pleas, he climbed the pole and insisted to the police and the rescue team that he would only come down if he was allowed to meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Atishi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, the police officer added. The police said that the rescue was not an easy one as his demands kept growing erratic and he refused to cooperate.  However, the Delhi Police team employed patient negotiation tactics, maintaining continuous communication with him throughout the ordeal.  Officers gradually calmed him down, assuring him that his concerns would be addressed, Gautam said, adding that after around two hours, the man was finally convinced to descend from the pole and rescued by the DFS officials without any harm to him. Following his rescue, he was taken into custody for further inquiry. During questioning, police found his statements contradictory, raising doubts about his mental stability and the authenticity of his claims. He is currently undergoing a medical examination to assess his mental health and determine whether he requires specialized care, a senior police officer said. However, so far, no documentary proof of his profession as a teacher or environmental activist has been provided.
