  • | Monday | 21st October, 2024

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has set up an eco-friendly tent cafe at the Asita Bio-Diversity Park with a seating capacity of nearly 60 to 70 people and will be operational before the onset of winter. The cafe was set up under the direction of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. It is a temporary structure and will serve pre-cooked food and beverages to the visitors, DDA said in a statement. The café will be operational before the onset of winters. A large number of people visit Asita park every day. The tent café is in close vicinity of the water body and the riverine grassland and will be flanked by over two lakh seasonal flowers including Tulips to be planted at Asita this winter. The café has a large metal container that will serve as the kitchen. The café has been designed and set up in a way that it can be removed instantly in case of flooding during the monsoon months and set up again when the water recedes. The tent has been erected atop a mound in  Asita park that will add to its aesthetics. Temporary seating will be made available inside as well as outside the tent area. According to the statement, the tent café at Asita comes after the successful opening of Café Stone at Mehrauli Archaeological Park and Café Bamboo Oasis at Baansera, on the initiative of Lt Governor Saxena. Upon receiving enthusiastic response from people visiting these places, the LG had directed the DDA to open a tent café at Asita, while maintaining the ecological character of the Yamuna floodplains and the natural surroundings of the Park. Meanwhile, to the delight of the visitors, DDA will be planting nearly 02 lakh seasonal flowers at Asita this winters. This includes 6000 Tulips apart from varieties like Poppy, calendula, cosmos, marigold, Hollyhocks, Dahlias, Coreopsis, Petunias, Salvias and many others. Asita Park, apart from being a green lung in the Yamuna floodplains, also serves as a remarkable habitat for migratory birds and reptiles. Over 70 species of resident and migratory birds can be found in Asita during the winters. This green lung on the floodplains has also become an ideal spot for morning and evening walkers and a picnic spot for students and visitors alike. Notably, in July this year, Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar had visited Asita and led a massive plantation drive at this park under the Ek Ped Maa ke Naam campaign. As many as 20,000 saplings were planted under the campaign at Asita, on a single day. Earlier, in March last year, Asita had also hosted the Ambassadors/High Commissioners of G-20 nations.
