Sulabh International marks UN World Food Day

To mark the UN World Food Day Sulabh International, Indias premier social service organisation emphasized the importance of diversity, nutrition, affordability, accessibility, and food safety. This event gave an opportunity to women farmers from across India who have benefited from Sulabhs food program, offering them a platform to showcase their produce                                        Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmerss Affairs Ram Nath Thakur while addressing Wold Food Day programme informed that provision of Rs. one lakh crore made for creating storage and cold storage facilities to ensure proper storage of foods in the country. Thakur said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given special attention towards the development of agriculture sector and such a huge amount has been allocated in this year budget to boost storage of all kinds of agricultural produces including vegetables and fruits. There is a vast possibility of work in this sector , he added. Thakur further stressed the need of intensive research to improve soil conditions to ensure high yields and quality production. With special reference to north Bihar , Thakur stressed the need to maximise the uses of availability of ponds in seven districts suitable for Makhana and fish farming. Expressing his views the executive Mayor of Cape Town , South Africa Geordin Hill Levis said that the situation is similar both in South Africa and India. Apart from Sanitation he is keen to learn about the food safety programmes being implemented in India, Levis added. President of Sulabh International Kumar Dilip in his remarks said that the decision to focus on food security emerged from our founder late Dr. Bindeshwar Pathaks commitment to holistic development—one that addresses not just sanitation but also the underlying factors contributing to poverty and inequality.
