BSES discoms to provide uninterrupted power supply this festive season

  • | Thursday | 3rd October, 2024

As the festival season kicks-in, BSES discoms are geared-up to provide uninterrupted power supply and ensure safety of their consumers in their licensed areas, officials said here on Wednesday. The discom has carried-out dedicated preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure safety as well as reliability of power supply.   This measure includes partial discharge measurement and hot spot thermal scanning to ensure safety and reliability of the power supply. Apart from this, BSES Power Restoration Teams are on high alert, operating round-the-clock, and will continue to do so throughout the festive period. BSES field staff is also available around the clock to ensure prompt service, even during the festival days. Also, BSES discoms have meticulously inspected the distribution installations to ensure their proper functioning and public safety. This includes extensive checking of fencing and metering panels in most public parks to rule-out the possibility of any current leakages. The electricity poles, Feeder Pillars, Distribution boxes, and sub-stations have been inspected and discrepancies corrected promptly. Over the years, BSES has been a front-runner in adopting cutting-edge technologies like SCADA, DMS, and GIS. These systems will facilitate real-time monitoring of power supply in Delhi and enable swift restoration in case of any disruptions during the festive season. Emphasizing the importance of safety, all fieldwork force has been re-sensitized and trained to follow safety precautions during any emergencies, especially during the festive season. BSES discoms have also engaged Safety Munadis to generate awareness on safety. In certain strategic areas, Nukad Nataks are also being undertaken, followed by a safety quiz. In a novel initiative, BSES has launched Tatkal, offering same-day temporary electricity connections for events like Durga Puja, Diwali Melas, Ramlilas, and weddings. Consumers can now obtain a temporary connection within 24 hours after completing the required formalities. This initiative not only enhances the festive spirit but also contributes to efforts to reduce air pollution. Moreover, ahead of festive season, BSES discoms have appealed to their customers for a safer celebration. BSES is also urging consumers to avoid any activity that will generate sparks near electricity installations such as Grids, Sub Stations, and Transformers. Even a stray spark has the potential to ignite a fire in these installations, causing massive disruptions. Notably, a fire in a grid could affect the power supply for around one lakh consumers, while damage to a 33/66 KV line or an 11 KV line can impact 10,000 and 2,500 consumers, respectively. It is also crucial to remember that causing damage to the electricity infrastructure is against the law. BSES has integrated all its consumer-facing platforms with the Intelligent Outage Management System (iOMS). This efficient system helps resolve the complaint via mobile apps. The discom has set up war rooms and deployed Quick Reaction Teams to assist in any exigencies, ensuring that consumers continue to enjoy the festival of lights without any interruptions.
