Govt to hold round-table talks to improve air quality in winter

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday announced that the AAP Government will organise a Round Table Conference at the Delhi Secretariat on Thursday with participants comprising experts and various departments of the Government to improve the quality of air in winter in the national Capital. Rai said the officers and representatives of departments and institutions such as Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM), Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Environment Department, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT),  United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society (SEEDS), Clean Air Asia, Greenpeace, Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) among others will participate in the round table conference to be held at the Delhi Secretariat. This year the main objective of our government will be to control pollution through public participation. The future plan will be developed around dust pollution, pollution caused by vehicles, problem of stubble and garbage burning, industrial pollution, green war room and Green Delhi app, hotspots, real-time apportionment study, e-waste eco park, increasing green areas, promoting public awareness and public participation, ban on firecrackers and other focus points, establishing dialogue with the central government and neighbouring states, he said. He added that to discuss the focus points in detail, environmental experts from about 36 institutions and officials from 42 departments will participate in the conference and a Winter Action Plan will be prepared based on the suggestions from all environmental experts.
