BJP to stage massive protest against rise in electricity bills

  • | Friday | 12th July, 2024

Delhi BJP will stage a massive protest against the increased electricity bills in the national Capital in front of the Delhi Secretariat on Friday demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said that the protest is also aimed at forcing the AAP led city government to roll back the increased rates and invited everyone to bring their electricity bills and join the movement against the Kejriwal government. Delhi BJP MPs, MLAs, and Resident Welfare Associations officials will also join the protest. Sachdeva said, The Delhi government, along with electricity companies, is looting the people of Delhi in two ways: first, by increasing the electricity bills by 8.75 per cent under the name of Power Purchase Adjustment Charge (PPAC), and second, by charging 7 per cent more in the name of the Pension Trust. He added that these increases have been made without informing the public and without any Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) approval, causing the electricity bills of Delhi consumers to rise by 1.5 times. Questioning the Kejriwal government and the electricity companies, he asked, Why is the pension of the retired employees of the electricity company, which is the responsibility of the company, being collected from the people of Delhi under the name of the Pension Trust. Delhi BJP chief alleged, Even when Kejriwal was out of jail, the government was looting the people of Delhi, and now from inside the jail, it continues to do the same. He added that in the presence of many RWA representatives, people will burn copies of their electricity bills to show their anger against the government.
