Delhi PWD Minister Atishi on Monday directed officials to find solutions for addressing the overflow of a drain, which runs through central Delhi, during heavy rainfall days after the rain on Friday wreaked havoc and created flood like situation in the national capital. The drain overflowed following a record-breaking rainfall of 228 mm on June 28, causing waterlogging in nearby areas. Atishi inspected the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) drain number 12 at ITO along with Mayor Shelly Oberoi, Chief Secretary and other senior officials including, and senior officials from MCD, PWD, Urban Development, and Flood and Irrigation Control Departments. "The water of central Delhi goes to Yamuna from drain No 12 near ITO. When Delhi received 228 mm of rainfall on June 28, the drain overflowed and caused waterlogging in the surrounding areas," the senior AAP leader said in a post in Hindi on X (formerly Twitter). "Today, I along with Mayor OberoiShelly and senior officials, inspected this drain and gave instructions for finding short- and long-term solutions to stop the overflow," she added. During the inspection, Atishi instructed the officials to find short-term solutions to prevent MCD drain number 12 from overflowing in the upcoming rainy season. She directed them to find a permanent solution to prevent the drain from overflowing so that the waterlogging problem does not arise in future and people do not have to face problems.
