Vehicular movement hit at Okhla underpass due to waterlogging

  • | Monday | 1st July, 2024

The Delhi Traffic Police restricted vehicular movement in the Okhla underpass due to waterlogging and asked commuters to accordingly plan their journeys while Pragati Maidan tunnel opened on Sunday evening as monsoon fury wreaked havoc in the national capital on Friday. The move to keep the Okhla underpass closed comes after a 60-year-old man drowned in the underpass on Saturday. The national capital experienced heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday, leading to waterlogging and massive traffic jams in several parts of the city. In a post on X, the traffic police said, "Movement of traffic is restricted at Okhla underpass due to waterlogging. Kindly plan your journey accordingly." The closure of the underpass has caused problems for regular commuters, increasing their travel times. Sushil Gupta, a commuter who travels through the same route to reach his office, stated, "I travel via that route to reach my office. It has increased my timing and has caused major inconvenience. They have not yet been able to clear the water till now. The route above the underpass is also closed. I have to take another route now." Another commuter Rajesh Kumar said he had been looking for an alternative route after getting stuck in a traffic jam for several hours near the underpass on Friday and Saturday. This is my everyday route to the office from Noida. Plan accordingly means I will have to take a longer route passing through the entire South Delhi, he said.
