Delhi Minister Atishi on Sunday instructed officials to repair the pump house at the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant and increase the capacity of the pump house at the Minto Bridge underpass that was flooded due to heavy rains and ensure that such problems do not recur. In a post in Hindi on X (formerly Twitter) after inspecting the Chandrawal water treatment plant, she said that unexpected rains flooded the pumping house of the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant, damaging the motors. "Due to this, (water) supply was disrupted in many parts of Central Delhi. Jal Board has worked quickly to resolve this problem and the plant has almost 80 per cent been repaired. Water supply will be back to normal soon," Atishi said. "Inspected the plant today and ordered officials to repair the pump house as soon as possible, and with joint inspection ensure that this problem does not recur in any plant in the future," she said. Delhi Water Minister Atishi led an inspection of the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plants pump house on Sunday morning. Its noteworthy that Delhi received unexpected rainfall recently. Normally, Delhi receives 800 mm rainfall during the entire monsoon season, but two days ago, 228 mm rainfall occurred in just 24 hours, she said, adding that the water entered the pump house located at Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant. Due to this, the motors of the pump house had been damaged. Through this pump house, water is supplied to many areas of central Delhi, but due to damage to the motors of the pump house, the supply was disrupted in these areas., she said, adding that the repair of the motors has been completed and the water supply will also become normal. Along with this, Atishi directed the officials that all the concerned departments including Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Urban Development Department to do a joint inspection of the plant and prepare a plan on that basis so that such problems do not arise in any plant in future. Meanwhile, Delhi Public Welfare Minister Atishi conducted a thorough inspection of the Minto Bridge underpass pump house on Sunday. Accompanied by senior officials, the Delhi PWD Minister mandated an increase in its (pump house) capacity, signaling a proactive approach to the citys flood management challenges. She further added that due to heavy rains, the pumps deployed at Minto Bridge underpass took time to drain out the water. Due to this, there was a problem of waterlogging here for a few hours. To prevent such a situation from arising again, Delhi PWD Minister Atishi inspected the pump house located here on Sunday along with senior officials of the department. PWD Minister Atishi instructed the officials to further increase the capacity of the pump house present here, use new technologies to prevent waterlogging and take all possible steps so that there is no waterlogging here in the future.
