The BJPs Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of late veteran leader Sushma Swaraj and Oxford educated lawyer, defeated AAPs Somnath Bharti to win the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 78,370 votes.  Swaraj, a first-timer, was fielded by the BJP in place of outgoing MP and Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi. The BJP won all seven seats in Delhi in the 2014 and the 2019 general elections, and is set to repeat the feat for the third time.  During her campaign, Swaraj focused on the development works executed by the Modi government in Delhi. New Delhi Parlaimentary seat is considered one of the high profile seat, which had been represented by Lal Krishna Adavani, Rajesh Khanna, Making her debut in the electoral politics, Swaraj, who is a Supreme Court lawyer, secured a victory with over 4.50 lakhs votes from the prestigious New Delhi seat, which has been earlier represented by stalwart leaders of BJP, including former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It is noteworthy that with Swaraj and West Delhis Kamlajeet Sehrawat winning in their constituencies, the national capital will send two female candidates to the Lok Sabha with Delhi sending just nine female candidates to the Parliament till now. Following her victory, Swaraj celebrated with the party workers and supporters for securing the seat. BJP distributed lotus shaped sweets in the Delhi state office to celebrate the victory of all its seven candidates in the national capital. Swaraj seeked blessings in the Birla temple for the much awaited results earlier in the day while stating, I am completely confident that today the people of India will choose the public welfare policies of BJP, and will choose the development policies of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I know Teesri Baar Phir Modi Sarkar." Bansuri, a newcomer in politics, has led a fiery campaign against AAP and is a vocal critic of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. On the other hand, Bharti is a veteran politician who has been a three time MLA from Malviya Nagar - a constituency that falls under the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat A total of 17 candidates contested from the New Delhi seat, with four contesting independently. About 5,000 voters chose to press the None of the Above (NOTA) button in the seat. Dropping two-time MP and party veteran Meenakshi Lekhi, the BJP fielded debutant Bansuri Swaraj in her place. Lekhi, won the 2019 and the 2014 elections in the New Delhi constituency by defeating the then Congress chief Ajay Maken by garnering over 55 percent of the votes polled in 2019 and 46.75 percent of the votes polled in 2014.
