FIR filed in assault of shawl traders

NEW DELHI: Three shawl traders from Jammu were thrashed by two men inside a train near Nangloi on Tuesday and an FIR was registered on the same day.The traders claimed that they got into an argument with the accused over a petty issue, following which they asked them about their whereabouts and started thrashing them. They said they managed to escape at the Nangloi station and registered a complaint. Police said that the assaulters have been identified and would be caught soon.The traders — Tahir Hussain Khan, Nadeem Ali and Gulzar Ahmed — had boarded a DMU train from the Vivekananda Halt to go to Sampla in Haryana. They said there were some women in the compartment as well. When they reached the Shakur Basti railway station, two youths aged about 30, allegedly made some gestures at them.When the victims protested, the men got into an argument. Suddenly, one of them grabbed Khan’s collar and asked him where he belonged to. When he mentioned Jammu and Kashmir, the accused started thrashing them.They claimed that the men even kicked and hit them with a belt. When the train stopped at the Nangloi station, the victims managed to jump off and escaped. “We had to leave our belongings behind as the two men kept hitting us. We took an autorickshaw to reach home and informed the police,” said Khan in his complaint.A case of causing hurt (323 IPC) and criminal intimidation (341 IPC) was registered against the assaulters. The traders went back to Jammu after the incident and said they would return only after the accused were caught.DCP (railways) D K Gupta said an inquiry has been initiated to identify the accused.
