The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday rapped authorities for not filing reports pertaining to recurrent instances of fire at the Ghazipur landfill site and directed officers from the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) and the Delhi Police to be present before the tribunal. [The] NCT [of] Delhi is further directed to obtain the report from the police regarding the fire incidents and report in this regard shall also be filed,” it had said.

As the situation is serious, we expected serious approach by the EDMC, which is lacking.” Directing the Commissioners of the EDMC and police to be present before it, the NGT added, “As we cannot allow such non-compliance again by indifferent attitude of the authorities..., factual information about the steps taken or being taken is essential.” Compliance reports The NGT had on March 22 directed the civic body and the State government to file compliance reports on instances of fire at the landfill. “The authorities concerned shall report compliance of our said directions and also explain how and why incidents of fire occurred if they had taken steps as ordered. [The] NCT [of] Delhi is further directed to obtain the report from the police regarding the fire incidents and report in this regard shall also be filed,” it had said.
