Nominations over: 65 candidates in poll fray for 5 Lok Sabha seats

Total 65 candidates are in the poll fray to contest in 5 Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand.As part of the norms, documents of the candidates would be scrutinised on March 26, whereas March 28 has been reserved to withdraw nominations From Tehri constituency, a total of 15 candidates would be contesting for the polls. A total of 12 candidates are in the fray from here. There are 10 candidates in the race for the constituency.On the Pauri seat, Manish Khanduri of the Congress and Tirath Singh Rawat of the BJP will lock horns. The seat is set to witness an intense battle between sitting BJP MP Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Congress nominee Ambrish Kumar. Among the prominent faces in the poll race are Pritam Singh of Congress, Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah of the BJP and independent candidate Gopal Mani, who is a ‘gau raksha’ campaigner.From Haridwar, 20 contestants filed their nomination papers.

Dehradun: Former chief minister and Congress candidate Harish Rawat, BJP’s Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Congress’s Manish Khanduri, state Congress chief Pritam Singh, state BJP chief Ajay Bhatt, Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Tamta and Union minister of state Ajay Tamta were among the prominent politicians who filed their nomination papers on Monday, the last day reserved for the process. On being asked about Congress leader Harish Rawat changing his seat from Haridwar to Nanital, Nishank said, “I am sure he will create another record of defeat in Nainital.”Rawat however expressed confidence on winning the elections, saying that the tides are in favour of the Congress party.“The massive response is not only in Nainital, but in all five constituencies. It only shows that the tide is in favour of the Congress and we are heading towards a massive victory,” Rawat said.Reenu Kashyap from Hindustan Nirman Daal, Pratibha Saini, an independent candidate, and Antriksh Saini from the BSP are also in the fray for Haridwar seat.In Nainital, a total of 10 candidates including Ajay Bhatt and Harish Rawat would be contesting.From Almora, Congress’s Pradeep Tamta will be taking on BJP’s Ajay Tamta. There are 10 candidates in the race for the constituency.On the Pauri seat, Manish Khanduri of the Congress and Tirath Singh Rawat of the BJP will lock horns.
