19 companies make 85 job offers at IIT-Madras

CHENNAI: The first phase of campus placements began at IIT-Madras on Saturday, wh-ere 19 companies offered 85 jobs during the first session (session 1.1) including six international offers . IIT-M said 326 companies were set to visit the campus in the first phase of placements that would go on till December 8. Microsoft made the highest number of offers at 25 roles and other companies hiring in large numbers were Goldman Sachs (7) and Apple (8).The international offers came from Microsoft, Uber, and Silicon Valley-based cloud enterprise Rubrik- a trend in line with last year’s global roles. “It has been an exhilarating experience of attending interviews of software giants, answering back-to-back nerve-wracking coding questions,” she said.More than 1,300 students registered for placements at IIT-Madras this year, across different streams. 23 recruiters including Samsung, Airbus, JP Morgan, and others formed part of the afternoon session.Microsoft, Google, Apple, Uber, Flipkart, Texas Instruments, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm and ITC are a few large recruiters who hired students in this session.

Finance and analytics-oriented profiles formed the bulk of the jobs at 29 offers made by companies in the said fields.IIT-M students received 93 job offers at the same slot last year, and the institute attributed it to bulk recruiters such as Samsung being part of the morning session last year, but came for the afternoon session this time. 23 recruiters including Samsung, Airbus, JP Morgan, and others formed part of the afternoon session.Microsoft, Google, Apple, Uber, Flipkart, Texas Instruments, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm and ITC are a few large recruiters who hired students in this session. Microsoft made the highest number of offers at 25 roles and other companies hiring in large numbers were Goldman Sachs (7) and Apple (8).The international offers came from Microsoft, Uber, and Silicon Valley-based cloud enterprise Rubrik- a trend in line with last year’s global roles. As a policy, IIT-M does not disclose details of salary packages offered to the students.Consulting majors McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group and Bain & Co also hired IIT-M graduates this year, accounting for 13 offers in session 1.1. Bain & Co and Nutanix Technologies are first-time recruiters who hired in the session.IIT-M said large Indian enterprises ISRO and ONGC have already recruited four and three candidates respectively in an earlier round of interviews.Commenting on initial trends, Manu Santhanam, advisor, Training and Placement, IIT-Madras, said, “We had premier companies in the first slot, which made a good number of offers to our candidates.” He said the institute would likely improve on day 1 numbers as compared to last year, thanks to high-profile recruiters being part of coming sessions.Alekhya Reddy, a student from the computer science department, received an international offer from Microsoft’s Redmond Campus in the US. “It has been an exhilarating experience of attending interviews of software giants, answering back-to-back nerve-wracking coding questions,” she said.More than 1,300 students registered for placements at IIT-Madras this year, across different streams.
