Punjab is set to witness a tech-enabled by-election on November 20, with 100 percent live webcasting slated for all polling stations across four constituencies. Ensuring a voter-friendly environment, the states Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C has issued instructions to all Deputy Commissioners and District Election Officials in Hoshiarpur, Barnala, Muktsar, and Gurdaspur districts to provide seamless basic amenities at all polling stations to avoid any inconvenience for voters.    The by-elections will take place in Barnala under Barnala district, Dera Baba Nanak under Gurdaspur district, Chabbewal under Hoshiarpur district, and Gidderbaha under Muktsar, with the CEO assuring of transparency and accessibility marking the electoral process.   At the same time, CEO Sibin C emphasized the importance of vigilance in the run-up to polling day. With only a few days left, strict measures are being taken to curb illegal activities such as the smuggling of drugs, liquor, and cash intended to influence voters. Officials have been directed to act swiftly on complaints of vote-buying through monetary incentives or other material goods.    Further, he has mandated heightened security during the crucial 48 hours preceding the polls and until the entire process concludes. Special focus will be on strengthening checkpoints, monitoring the movement of outsiders, and ensuring robust enforcement to prevent any malpractices.    Acknowledging the critical role of polling personnel, the administration is ensuring their comfort by arranging adequate food, lodging, and provisions to tackle cold weather conditions. CEO Sibin C has also stressed creating voter-friendly polling stations equipped with essential facilities such as drinking water, waiting areas, high-quality restrooms, and other necessary amenities.
