Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu underscored the significance of preserving the states rich heritage at the closing ceremony of the State Level Kinnaur Mahotsav on Saturday night. Sukhu, addressing a vibrant gathering on the final day of the four-day cultural celebration, praised the people of Kinnaur for their commitment to preserving traditional music, dance, and art forms, which have long defined the regions cultural legacy. He emphasized that festivals like Kinnaur Mahotsav serve as a bridge connecting generations, fostering a sense of unity, and inspiring awareness about the states heritage.   The essence of Himachal Pradesh is woven into its traditions, and preserving this legacy is a priority, said Sukhu, adding, Our government is committed to nurture these unique cultural expressions while advancing the development and welfare of the states tribal areas.   Expanding on the governments initiatives for Kinnaur, the Chief Minister highlighted several developmental projects and welfare schemes aimed at bolstering both the cultural and economic framework of the region. Key among these initiatives is the construction of a heliport in Kinnaur, aimed at improving connectivity and fostering tourism. Additionally, a sports complex is underway, with a substantial investment of Rs 28 crore, designed to offer recreational avenues for youth and counter drug abuse in the region.   In an innovative step towards agricultural support, the State Government has embarked on creating the worlds first Controlled Atmosphere Storage Facility (CA store) in Tapri, Kinnaur. Developed through a partnership with Iceland, this facility will leverage geothermal technology to ensure optimal storage for produce, strengthening the local horticulture economy. In tandem, a Universal Carton initiative has been introduced, allowing farmers to sell apples on a per-kilogram basis, a development the Chief Minister attributed to the administrations strong governance.   Sukhu, addressing infrastructure challenges, particularly the frequent roadblocks due to rains in Nigulsari, Kinnaur, announced Rs five crore allocation for an alternative route to Reckong Peo, ensuring safe and continuous travel for residents and visitors. Development isnt just about large projects; its about removing the everyday inconveniences that disrupt life and livelihood, he remarked.   Further illustrating the governments commitment to inclusive welfare, CM Sukhu highlighted the reintroduction of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), benefiting 1.36 lakh government employees. Describing it as a move to uphold employees rights, he credited the State Governments decisive leadership for implementing OPS in its very first cabinet meeting.   Amidst the recent natural disasters, Sukhu commended the resilience of Kinnaurs communities and reiterated the governments support, with a special relief package of Rs 4500 crore to aid those affected. Additionally, he unveiled a series of developmental projects worth Rs 30.70 crore, aimed at improving infrastructure and health services in the tribal region.   The Government is also committed to enhance education. English medium instruction has been introduced from Class I across all government schools this academic session, ensuring that children in Himachal Pradesh receive quality education from an early age. Sukhu also outlined future targets, including making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant by 2027 and positioning it as one of Indias most prosperous states by 2032.   On the occasion, Sukhu distributed land leases to the poor and landless under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, affirming his Governments people-centric approach. The Chief Minister concluded the evening by honouring winners of various competitions held during the festival, symbolizing the spirit of Kinnaur Mahotsav — a festival that celebrates community, resilience, and the preservation of cultural pride.
