Punjab pushes for zero pendency in citizen services, Sets one-week deadline for DCs

  • | Thursday | 3rd October, 2024

Punjab Governance Reforms and Public Grievances Minister Aman Arora on Wednesday issued a firm directive to all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) in the State, setting a one-week deadline to clear any pending citizen service requests. The move is aimed at ensuring that Punjab retains its top position in grievance resolution rankings across India.   The state recently achieved the top spot in the Government of Indias Grievance Redressal Index, which compares the efficiency of states and Union Territories in resolving public grievances. While reviewing the performance of the Department of Governance Reforms and Public Grievances, Arora acknowledged that current pendency levels are below 0.19 percent in all districts. However, he stressed that even minor delays should be addressed to further enhance service delivery.   He emphasized accountability by urging DCs to identify and hold responsible any officials causing unnecessary delays. Additionally, he called for the recognition of top-performing officials to motivate them and maintain high standards of service.   Arora also reviewed the progress of the Bhagwant Mann Sarkar, Tuhade Dwaar scheme, which provides citizens access to 43 government services via the helpline number 1076. He urged officials to intensify efforts to promote the scheme, ensuring that more people benefit from convenient service delivery at home.   Praising the dedication of the DCs, Arora reaffirmed the Punjab Governments commitment, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, to delivering prompt and efficient services. The meeting also covered the status of complaints received through the Public Grievances Redressal System (PGRS).
