Punjab Police launches Saanjh Rahat Project to support victims of domestic violence

  • | Friday | 20th September, 2024

Punjab Police on Thursday launched a new initiative — the Saanjh Rahat Project — aimed at identifying and supporting victims of domestic violence. The project focuses on empowering women affected by domestic abuse by providing them with essential psycho-social and legal support to lead violence-free lives.   Launched in collaboration with the Indore-based NGO Nai Shuruwat, the project is a multi-agency initiative involving key partners like the Health Department, Department of Social Security and Women and Child Development, State Legal Services Authority, and District Legal Services Authority.   DGP Gaurav Yadav, speaking at the launch, said, This initiative will bridge the gap in support services for victims of domestic violence, empowering them to make informed decisions about their future.   The pilot phase of the project has been launched at the Civil Hospital in SAS Nagar (Mohali), where two dedicated counselors are stationed to identify and assist victims. The project will eventually expand across the state. The Saanjh Rahat Resource Centre, located at the hospital, will serve as a hub for victims, connecting them with the necessary resources and offering legal guidance whenever required.
