Punjab Police Conduct Extensive Security Operations Ahead of I-Day

To ensure peaceful celebrations for the forthcoming Independence Day-2024, Punjab Police on Monday conducted extensive cordon and search operations (CASO) across the State targeting the District and Sub-Divisional Courts, aimed to bolster security at all Judicial Complexes across all .   The statewide security checks, carried out from 11 am to 2 pm, were initiated on the directives of the state Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav in all the 28 Police districts of the State. Special DGP, Law and Order, Arpit Shukla said that Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) were instructed to personally oversee the operation, ensuring a robust police presence under the supervision of SP-rank officers.   CPs and SSPs were tasked with scrutinizing all suspicious individuals in and around the court complexes and inspecting vehicles parked nearby using the Vahan app. Police teams were also instructed to verify the functionality of Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMDs) and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras within Judicial Complexes.   Providing further details, Shukla revealed that police teams had frisked 1,421 suspicious individuals found near court complexes. Additionally, 1,850 vehicles parked around court premises were checked, resulting in 62 traffic challans and the impounding of one vehicle.  The objective of these checks is to ensure foolproof security at Judicial complexes and to clamp down on anti-social elements, said Shukla, emphasizing that these measures are part of a broader strategy to enhance security and public safety during the Independence Day celebrations.   Cross-Border Smuggling Module Busted Ahead of I-Day; One Held With 2 Glock Pistols   In a significant operation amidst special drives for ensuring peaceful Independence Day celebrations, Punjab Police has dismantled a cross-border smuggling module. The operation led to the arrest of Rajwant Singh alias Raju, an operative linked to the Pakistan-based smuggler Rana Dyal.  DGP Gaurav Yadav on Monday said that Rajwant Singh, a resident of Attalgarh village in Amritsar, was apprehended with two sophisticated 9MM Glock pistols and two magazines. His motorcycle, a CT-100 (PB02AL7481), used for delivering the contraband, was also impounded.  He detailed that the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, had received intelligence about Rajwant Singhs movements. He was reportedly en route to deliver a consignment of smuggled weapons and narcotics near Khurmanian Morh on the Attari-Amritsar road. Acting swiftly, the SSOC Amritsar team cordoned off the area and apprehended Rajwant Singh, recovering the weapon consignment. The investigation revealed Rajwant Singhs direct contact with Pak-based smuggler Rana Dyal, who has been using drones and other methods to push large consignments of weapons and drugs into India.
