Stricter vigilantism and moral tips required to be enforced in such campuses: Samanta admits

In an unfortunate first of its kind an incident that took place at the campus of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) about three days back came as a rude shock for many within and outside.

It was an off shoot of a personal relationship between two students which was dubbed or described as a rape case which led to the suicide of the girl.

She is no more alive but after the incident a fire of anger among her compatriots engulfed the campus for some time. An air of unrest prevailed and the KIIT founder tried his best to bring the situation under control. Which he(Achyut Samanata) did.

All said done, the founder was perplexed by the development not because of the unrest, which was inching towards normalcy, but by the exaggerated battering by certain media houses giving grains to the turmoil.

This campus has an unblemished record of peace and harmony for over three decades and its founder cannot be denied the credit of a flawless guardianship for over thirty years.

But being the part and parcel of the entirety he cannot isolate himself from the entire gamut and the pensive traits on his face speak enough about his deep concern.

It was obvious that the compatriots of the victim, a girl from Nepal, rest students from Nepal agitated demanding the punishment of the accused (also a boy from outside the state). That was a natural culmination.

However, the accused has already been arrested undergoing a probe by the police.

What was disturbingly noticeable was that certain media platforms virtually camped near the campus and resorted to reporting of the incident and the aftermath in piece-meal to keep the fire burning which subsequently weighed over the efforts to bring back harmony.

However, now, the normalcy is there and students, including the ones from Nepal, have resumed their studies as usual.

But, in addition to certain nit-peaking by certain media houses, some other organizations have emerged there with their demands.

“Media has the right to report on the incident but the reports should be based on facts and play the role as duly assigned but should not resort to battering” said Dr Achyut Samanta, the founder of KIIT, in an exclusive talk with NYOOOZ.COM.

“ Samanta agreed that there is a dire need to orient the students with morals in life which is highly required at their formative stage besides their usual curriculums”.

In reply to a question whether there is a need for course correction he said “we correct ourselves every other day and that is part of life”

Any such huge campus with a strength of students numbering above one lakh it is the need of the hour that stricter vigilantism within the campus needs to be augmented, Dr Samanta ageed.
