Amid the respite from the severe heat wave conditions across Odisha due to norwester-triggered rainfall in the last couple of days, the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar experienced heavy rains accompanied by lightning and gusty winds late Saturday night.   Vehicular movement along the roads was reportedly halted and different low-lying areas were submerged in rainwater. People in many areas suffered the most due to power outage and waterlogging. Even, water entered the houses of the people residing in low-lying areas.   As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar received 76.8 mm rainfall and it was the highest amount of rains in the capital city in the current year. While Paradip experienced 51.4 mm rainfall, Puri witnessed 37.8 mm. Baleswar and Chandbali recorded 35mm and 32 mm rainfalls, respectively.   Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued a warning for thunderstorm activities in several parts of Odisha till May 15. The Met office also issued a Yellow warning for severe rainfall, thunderstorm and lightning activities in four districts on Sunday. These districts are Mayurbhanj, Baleswar, Bhadrak and Jajpur. Alert was also issued for 15 more districts for lightning and gusty winds up to 30-50kms per hour.   The IMD further predicted that the heat wave conditions are likely to return to Odisha from May 17. The daytime temperature is likely to increase at several places in the State from May 17 to 23.
